Been watching a bunch of football on the tube. ‘Tis the season. Started with the spring practice game. And will last through most of January.
I’ve made a little money watching from that press box atop the stadium. My resume includes part-time newspaper sports writer and host of a Friday night high school TV scores show. Once ’emceed’ a Monday morning gridiron show. Proud I got this far before writing my first cliche.
Got to know some coaches.
Now I see…while watching mid-week replays from last-century…two coaches who started their season once by inviting communications associate Dean Elam, next time Carolina broadcast chairman Professor Elam, to watch a game from the team’s sidelines.
The late Darrell Royal reappears in the weekly replays. So does Mack Brown. He’s still coaching. Saw him on the sidelines Thursday night. Lately I watch the ‘Sark,’ newest coach on Austin sidelines, squat and make notes. Think Coach Sarkinson positions himself to get a better view of the portal through which some prospects are coming, some going. We’ll know when we watch spring practice game.
