Hearing Aids

Newlyweds Christine and Alec Eastus spent a year at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee.  Then spent their second married year completing their graduate studies at the University of Texas.

Christine had received a post-graduate scholarship when she graduated, Valedictorian, from McMurry College.  Alec, an earlier McMurry graduate, had served as an enlisted man in the Air Corp legal division during the Korean War.

During their second graduate-student year, Christine translated a Polish novel for her Master’s degree in English.  Alec studied for his Law degree.  He insisted his wife go the football game with him.

The Longhorns weren’t excelling.  A lineman jumped offside and got the play called back.  Alec yelled instructions to the line coach.  A few plays later, the same lineman fouled again.  And Alec from the stands again yelled his instruction to the line coach.

Christine was embarrassed.  Got up and went home.  Alec yelled again before he noticed his wife had left him.  Game lost, he went to their apartment.

“Why did you leave the game?”

“Your yell embarrassed me!  Why did you need to yell, ’Coach, your tackle needs to urinate?’ “

“Oh, no. I yelled, ‘coach, your tackle needs a hearing aid’.”
