Country Doctor

Country Doctor

Spending my summer in a small Indiana town , surrounded by corn and soybean fields as I write World War II historical fiction.

Went to see my “Country Doctor” the other day.

Besides my health, we have another common interest—book writing.   Both of us have published a book with an independent publisher. Neither of us made the best-selling list.  Four years ago, I bought and read his book: “Surviving and Thriving with a Chronic Disease” by Curtis M. Bejes, M.D.

My Indiana Doctor and I talk about books that we want to write.   One future writing idea Dr. Bejes  mentioned was his son’s experiences as a hunting guide in Alaska.  The other day, he said he was leaving for Alaska at week’s end to hunt with his son and a retiring guide who mentored his son.

The next day, I sent the email ( shortened ) below:

“Dr. Bejes, you need to forgive me for not telling you about Teddy Roosevelt’s hunting books.  Also recommend ‘The Old Man and the Boy’ by Robert Ruark….the Old Man teaches his Grandson how to fish and hunt.

Betting you learned to hunt from your father when you lived on the farm up the road from Toto, and that you passed the skill on to your son.”

            Response:

“Thank you for your kind suggestions.  I have read many of T. Roosevelt’s and a few of Ruark’s.  They are classics.  Enjoy the rest of your summer.  Curt Bejes.”

My answer: “I think, maybe, I’m telling Noah about the Flood?  Good hunting.”
